Does the VP trip computer level 3 dash have the same background functions as the VR-VS, like being able to pull up the volt meter and so on?

yes, the trip computer section of the dash can be swapped between vn-vs clusters (only ones that don't agree are the early vn ones that don't have the chime, but that's only a problem if you reprogram the micro controller on a newer trip computer with early vn code.... Realistically no one is going to do that, was something i stumbled across when messing with these trip computers a while ago, there's a thread on delohacking , there were basically 3 revisions of the microprocessor code with slight variations but nothing to change functionality)

i'm using a s2 vn/vp trip computer with a vr pcm and once calibrated works fine

Cheers, I'm more interested in knowing if the VP one as is can pull up the volt meter etc rather than having to swap out VR/VS parts. Thanx.

If you fit a VP trip computer to a VR VS cluster it should pass the diag mode test. The early trip computer (VN) in a VR or VS would fail the cruise control, low fuel and over speed warnings. But should count kms and go into diag mode.

Hmmm, maybe I am not asking the right question.

Forget VR/VS for a second.

Can you start the car with the "Mode" and "Set" buttons pressed, giving you Volts and a digital speedo amongst other things, accessing the diagnostic mode of the trip computer?

Sorry for all the confusion. First VP I've ever owned and fumbling my way around it.

Yes you can, I can't remember at the moment which buttons need pushing as you turn on the ignition.

yes and it's not mode + set/reset it's just hold set/reset and turn ign on (if wanting to see voltage with engine running keep holding it until you have started the engine then release)

keeping in mind it'll show a slightly lower voltage than if you were to put a dmm directly on the battery (as for how accurate 99% of the cheap dmm's are...), think of it like a fuel/temp gauge, if it's <12V with the engine running it's bad, if it's >13.4V engine running it's good, even a tech2 hooked upto a vt/vx/vy will show under 14V (seen 13.6-13.9 on quite a few) with the engine running, voltage drop across all the wiring and things running off it etc etc.....
