Hi all, My VP 3.8 V6 (auto) seems to idle very rough after I've driven the car, it's cooled down a little and I try to start it again - generally after 30 minutes. The car's fine when cold, but when starting it up again after it's been driven for a while and after it has had a chance to cool down it's quite bad. Generally, after putting it into reverse or drive, the car will stall. It starts again ok but sometimes takes a few times for it to be ok. Generally giving it a bit of a rev as soon as the car has started does the trick. Basically if I've driven the car and it has reached normal engine operating temperature and I leave it for a while (prob for at least 30 mins) it cracks the shits, whereas if I start it straight away after stopping it right after driving it, it's fine. Any ideas? Hopefully the above makes sense!!! Cheers. PS. Another question: How often should my transmission be serviced? How much will the typical service cost?
Having the exact same problem as you mate, and i know how you feel. To fix the stalling problem, you need to either clean your throttle body and your idle air control valve (aka iac valve), or if you have done that, test/replace your iac valve. Really, ive changed just about everything so far and its really getting anoying. Might change fuel filter and see how it goes. I tested my coil packs and i got 13.5 ohms for the first two and 12.1 for the last. Maybe a dodged pack? Since my vn is a series one, how hard is it to change the coil packs to s2 ones?
hi have u tryed replacing the fuel regulater its at the back of the fuel rail were the injectors are on the passenger side its a little crome valve with 2 hoses coming of it a small vacum hose and a larger fuel return hose i had a problem with my vr were it would do the same as urs take the little hose of and start the car and see if fuel come out if so its stuffed replace it and it will be like new good luck let me no how u went hope i can be some help to ur problem
i had the same problem with my series 1 VN it was giving me the shits like when you pull up to some lights and everyone is looking at you waiting for your car to stall or explode, but what ive done to fix it is as follows, sorry but its alot. change O2 sensor change all vac hosing clean throtle out fuel filter fuel regulator change map sensor sparkplugs get injectors cleaned change thermostat i think thats all. have a go might work for you too, best be is the thermostat or the fuel pressure regulator. if your a local in syd i acn help you out.
Lets see my list; Changed O2 sensor All vac hoses are new Entire inlet manifold sand blasted clean (also fully rebuilt) Thermostat was first changed (to fix overheating problem) New leads, plugs, airfilter Injectors cleaned by myself during inlet manifold rebuild New alternator Thottle body cleaned with rebuild and new iac valve installed (old one would not reset) Reset idle around 5 times now I think that may be it for now, but its getting dam expensive (im probably gonna give up soon, i am getting another car soon). Am going to try; Fuel filter Changing coil pack Swapping DFI Possibly fuel pump if all else fails
How often should my transmission be serviced and what is a typical service likely to set me back? Thanks!
IAC Issues The engine light in my brothers series 1 vn has been coming on. The holden parts and services dept. analysed it and said that the IAC control steps were reading incorrect and that the IAC motor was sticking. I have been advised to claen the iac and throttle body and replace base idle before replacing anything. As we only have a max ellery's manual, which i don't recommend anyone buying, i'm not having much luck understanding things :b: I need to know: 1) If the iac motor and valve are the same thing or if both make the whole IAC 2) How do i reset base idle. Cheers
coil packs can cause idle problems if they are on the way out adn get warm. most garages can check these in a spare minute and with luck wont charge you for it. CLE i would do your transmission every 20000 or once a year/18months. its a piece of piss to do and will set you back less than $50. mines V8 so i service it more than you might have to.
i changed my series one coil pack for a series 2 one and it was just a bolt up affair. and i have had no problems in the last month at all. appart from the idle being rough when warm also
