Hi hope someone can help, Was driving last night when suddenly engine starts losing power and struggling to idle! Can keep it running with a bit of throttle but wants to stop without it. Doesn't matter how much throttle you give it doesn't pick up the revs properly or much! also could feel a pressure change in the brake pedal with the changing revs! Managed to get it home and opened the bonnet and the exhaust manifolds were glowing red excessively on both sides. No engine light appeared on the dash when it all happened. Have battery on charge at the moment cos it was down on voltage but was still winding the car over. Was lucky had been driving for a couple of minutes when it all went pear shaped!!! Has anyone had the same issues? Any help or ideas greatly appreciated.

cheers

If you had a loss of pressure in the brake pedal sounds like a vacuum leak to me.

But also check the usual, plugs, leads, dizzy cap, coil etc

No power, low vacuum (funny brakes), and very hot exhaust sounds like the ignition is very retarded. I would have said the ECU has gone into limp-home except that it would/should still idle okay. I say check the position of the distributor and see that it hasn't come loose and slipped around.
