Just one quick question - in the instructions I used, it said you need to push the copper contacts in the inhibitor switch towards the outer wall - I would have assumed the needed to be angled towards the centre to make full contact with the other tabs?

Does that make sense?

I think they mean to bend them outwards a bit to make sure they are touching the contacts as they might lose tension over the years.
As long as they are touching they should be right.
A bit of dielectric grease on the contacts will prolong their life (assuming they're not already worn out)

Would you mean bending them towards the other contacts or bending them towards the outer wall of the housing?

The pen sort of worked, the plastic pin is made of a soft plastic so it tends to deform if you put any pressure on it.
The thing is you need to squeeze the four parts of the pin together to get the pin to slip through the switch.

Just that the photo in the guide I used has the contacts bent towards the opposite side of the green cap side...

Bend the terminals in the rotary part so they make better contact with the brass contacts in the stationary housing...but not too much, just enough to ensure proper contact.
Too much bend will give too much tension and wear the switch out quicker.

That sounds logical... in theory if anything, wear would probably bend them slightly away from the other contacts...

That's a nice how-to, I don't think I found that when I was trying to get reverse lights working, good photos too.
