Sorry, simply don't believe it. Just because someone fabricated a chassis does not give a 3.5 ton tow rating. There is a bit more to it and without doing some serious testing I highly doubt it, it's not just about the chassis, it's about been able to control, move and stop the mass. Along with chassis upgrades you would need engine/trans, brakes and wheel/tyre upgrades.
Yes, I agree! Dynamics.

I have a Mitsubishi Triton single cab Ute, 2.4 petrol. Max tow capacity 1800kgs. Although the tow bar placard says 3000kgs capacity, which would be for the 2.5 4WD. It’s easy to look at something like this and think your good to go. Frankly, I’d be mindful if towing a pram with a fat baby in it!

I remember the Commy towing a blue machine, with the trailer alone close to the safe tow limit.......

How's about shhhh and we keep that one between ourselves aye mate ;)

Difference is, you know you were pushing the limits, the OP thinks 3.5 ton is a safe limit. On a standard VR/VS brakes I wouldn't even consider going to the max 2100kg, at least you have upgraded brakes.

I have towed a 1966 big block Dodge Phoenix with a 1976 Valiant sedan, fitted with standard Valiant brakes, which are well known for being shite, 150 kays....I had no issues what so ever....

Honestly I see the towing capacities these days being put in place, because of idiots, not knowing how to tow....Nothing more

Here's the car in question that was used for towing

Yeah but at least the Val had a 727. Factory VS trans are not built to tow, even with a cooler.

No mate...Had a crappy borgie 35 behind the 6's...Those gearboxes were well known for crapping themselves with the slightest hint of a hard time....The borgie 35's were also available behind Falcon 6's as well...

The 727's were available behind some 8's....Most 8's had the 904...I won't go into details back in 1973/4 ish with gearboxes...
