Some vital info on ignition.
The dizzy is sending on-off signal to the ignition module when the hall effect sensor is activated.
The ignition module switches the coil on-off in time with this signal. The coil charges when -ve is connected and discharges when -ve is disconnected.
The -ve or ground side of the coil is switched by the ignition module. The coil is permanently +ve on when ignition is on and when cranking.
THE SWITCHING OF THE COIL IS DONE AT THE COIL NEGATIVE = EARTH! The coil should not be permanently earthed!
To test the ignition module and dizzy hall effect sensor:
Find the wire between the coil -ve and the ignition module, disconnect it from the coil and use your test light to connect it to the battery +ve.
When cranking this light should flash on and off.
To test the coil +ve:
Connect test light to coil +ve and battery -ve.
The light should be on when ignition is on and when cranking.
Do these and get back to us and I'll see what else you need to do, ie install a relay to run the ignition from closer to the battery and use the key barrell just for switching.
Good luck.
