Hey, just got my 1994 VR clubby last week and I'm absolutely loving it. I have a couple of questions though, so if anyone could give me some advice that would be great. It's the T5 5spd manual, with the 185 5L V8.

1. Key? mine is stuffed, and i need a new one but im told these have a chip in them and are only available from holden and have to be programmed to your car or something?

2. The little buzz you get in this make of commies from the back of the car from what i assume is the fuel pump? mine although seems to be working fine, absolutely howls once the car is warm, its like an annoying whine. has anyone else experienced this or know whats going on?

3. Seat covers? I used to have genuine HSV sheepskin covers on my VP SS, but i cant even find any holden seat covers anymore. Does anyone know where I might be able to get some holden or hsv badged covers at a reasonable price. local holden dealer quoted $340 just for the front seats. :bang: clowns!

4. In fifth gear, at any revs or speed I get vibration right through the car. it doesnt happen in any other gear at any revs, and is gone the second i knock it out of gear. i wouldnt say it was very bad but it is defiantely noticable and pretty dang irratating.

The whole vibration thing is real wierd so thanks for any help or advice you can spare. cheers!

1. yes, holden does them, you can get new key heads off ebay and there are locksmiths around that can reprogram them aswell. shop around for a good price

2. maybe replace the pump, if its howling that bad, it might be getting ready to pack it in.

3. hmm, i work for autobarn and i cant remember if we sell holden branded ones anymore, floor mats only have the word "commodore" or "holden", no logo, no more keyrings, all from copyright.

maybe try kmart or something.

4. i cant really help with this one, but maybe theres a tooth missing off the gear, or its warped or something.

so i can basically get the whole lot done by a locksmith for the key? I thought for sure ebay would be flooded with HSV merchandise including seat covers and floor mats but hardly anything. Yeah i hear kmart have the rights to sell a lot of that sort of stuff, but i find it hard to believe that anything of quality would come from their store.

i was thinking i'd get sheep skins tailor made made and then take them to get embriodered with the HSV logo. still pricy but I think i'll get better value for money that way.

that fuel pump looks like a major pain to get at too, why do holden make these things so hard?

Locksmith down the road from me copies holden keys for $99... not the cheapest but he supplies the new keyfob + blade and does it all in 5 mins. Theres bound to be a few places that do that around.

i went to my local locksmith and he cut me a new key for $25, and then i had to go to holden to get a new head and get the head programmed, cost about $89 if i remeber correctly. im sure there are places where u can get it done cheaper, but i dont know of any. owell...at least you dont drive a lexus, my locksmith said a new key for the new lexus' is sold for at least $650....bugger that.

Regarding your issues with the whining noise and vibrations... are you sure its not the diff ?

The vibration issue could be something as simple as gearbox mounts not done up tight enough...a loose flywheel or clutch pressure plate...or the tailshaft centre bearing, cv joint, or universal joints stuffed...It could also mean the bearings are shot in the gearbox....mega $$$.

Mate one other thing the whining noise could be and it is a long shot, see if your car has self levelers. There is a electric motor near your diff. They came out on the senators but may have been able to be optioned on the clubby's.
Just a thought!!

Ok, cheers for the help guys.

It would be unlikely to be the diff as the vibration is only in one gear (5th), and never happens in any other gear. This basically takes the drive line right out of the equation. It has to be the gearbox. If anything I would say it is a bearing in the gear box that's shot or maybe even a warped gear? I think this will be pretty expensive to fix though yeah?

The whining is definately the fuel pump, because it does it at idle, and i can hear from the outside the car that is were it is coming from. Doesn't sound really healthy, so I might replace it before it does decide to let go and leave me stranded.

So i think the box is a job for the professionals, and I'm gonna have to save my pennys, cos it's unlikely to be cheap fix. At least 5th is only for fun anyway in these things. :yeah: Thanks again for your feedback though.
