VR Commodore Acclaim Air Bag Steering Wheel Removal

    am wanting some tips on how to take my air bag steering wheel of a vr acclaim to replace the steering wheel with a leather vs statesman steering wheel air bag also.

    do i just disconnect the battery remove air bag fuse then undo the nuts in horn pad?

    what about the clock springs where do they sit and do i need to remove it. just wnat instructions on removal.Thanks

    Although It has been covered before, I will give you pointers for your own safety. If you are going anywhere near an airbag or part of the airbag system disconnect the battery and wait ten minutes (maybe longer) they use capacitors in most airbag systems to enable the airbags to still work if the front of the car (including the battery) is torn off or destroyed in an accident

    And as for the clock spring be careful not to spin it around past its limits, they use a ribbon system on the inside which are easy to snap if spun too far, they have instructions which you MUST follow printed on them to reset them when you reinstall the wheel

    Under the steering column is the yellow connector that the links the airbag to the triggering module. With that disconnected the airbag cannot be fired. Which wire it is will be obvious.
