    Hi guys
i've done an engine change in my Vr (were not to sure about what series it is)
Problem is it won't start I've wired it, grounded it out, new leads, new spark plugs, new fuel filtter checked the ignition modual, coil pack, battery
It will start for a brief second with start ya barsted sprayed down it but that's it. They only things I can think of is CAS and fuel pump but would it matter of the exhaust is not on for it to not start ( probably a stupid question but I don't know a whole lot about cars) it's a manual V6 sedan
    Thanks.

you could give us more info about what you've done. Might get some of the experts here interested in helping.
For instance: did you put the replacement engine in complete as it was including the CAS, injectors etc that was on it? Or did you use some parts off your old motor? What's the status of the new motor? 2nd hand, 2nd hand n known to be running, re-built etc etc.
Bump your query up to the top and see if you can get some Friday night action! Unless you've got it running in the last 24 hours. In which case you can let us know how clever you've been.......

Its a second hand engine and off of a Vr it was complete but needed a new pully which was replaced my father-inlaw got it and was told it was running when they pulled the engine out we did how ever use the coil pack off a the old engine as we know it works and pulled of the aircon. I also checked today if it had any spark and it doesn't

    Doea that help?

yes, crank angle sensor (CAS) sounds a likely culprit, esp if you (ASSM) have confirmed there's no spark and your old coil pack was known to be working.

Getting the harmonic balancer (pulley) off can be difficult but I've read tips on doing it on this site so do a search and see what you can find. I think you're on the right track altho if your old CAS looks at all dodgy I would buy a newie rather than have to re-do the job. Also check out the relative condition of the 2 HB and put the best one on.
    Keep us posted

Probably not CAS as it starts when spraying something into the manifold.
Double check you have the fuel lines connected correctly and not arse about

Check for fault codes, easier than flying blind

check oil pressure switch (plugged in or faulty), its the only thing between the power feed and ur fuel pump.

I bet you have the fuel lines on backwards. I admit, I made that mistake once :p

I did think that but he did say that he checked and had no spark. Conflicting information there.
