I have a VR and it recently started to do strange things. Occasionly on long trips it started to struggle up hills in overdrive and the revs would start flicking and the gear box felt as if it was missing in overdrive and then eventually fall into 'limp home mode' going up a hill around 100kmph. If I pulled the car over and turned it off it corrected itself and off it went. It could then drive for 300km before it happened again or it could happen again straight away.

The car has had a full service recently, break booster replaced and alterternator servcied and has recenlty started up it's weird behavior again even when driving at low speeds now in the burbs. It surges and then the revs might kick up and then down and it might still occasionlly fall into limp home mode when under no stress. But at low speeds the gears are flicking through up down and everywhere. Anyone have any ideas?

Thanks Hako. Took your advice and had the log checked. Turns out the vehicle speed sensor is out. The mechanic asked if I noticed the speedo playing up. I said yes. Wish I had mentioned this earlier! I'm an idiot. It's been playing up since the breaks were played with. Turns out if this is out the car has no idea what gear to use and so the gear box feels like it's broken as the car constantly changes gears. So hopefully someone unplugged something and they will go from there.

    Cheers again. Great website!
