Vr commodore ute
Hey everyone :) I've got a vr ute and want to turn it into a panelvan.

I want to put a hq chassis in and custom fabricate the whole panelvan structure myself.

Does anyone know any good automotive engineers in the illawarra/ sydney area that I could talk to regarding this?

thanks.

This.

If you're using a HQ chassis, it will technically be a HQ panelvan with a VS front. And would it even line up properly with the VS body?

Best to open up your yellow pages book and start calling local engineers tomorrow. Or even go to hotrod shops for some advice.

That sounds like the hard way to go about getting a VR panel van. An HQ is significantly bigger than a VR and it wouldn't be a simple drop over even if they were a similar size. You could take the roof off the ute cab and fabricate the entire rear section, given the right skills. It may be easier to start with a wagon or at least use a wagon rear section as a base.

A GFRP fabrication, similar to that used to make the panel van VT (or VX?) "Sandman" show car, would certainly be easier to do. Much easier to get approval for also, as there'd be no structural change to the basic vehicle.

Either way, it's a big project.

Not sure why you would want to use a HQ chassis, that seems like your just making it harder for yourself. Id be keeping the ute on its chassis and grafting a VR wagon roof and rear section onto it and going from there.
