VR Petrol gauge problems

Just bought a Vr the other day and saw the petrol was empty. Went to the servo and could only get 20bucks in (After multiple clicks at the pump). Figured there was something wrong with the gauge cause it only just read a bit more after that petrol. The low petrol chime in the car sounds however the petrol light doesn't come on. I've read other peoples threads and they all say just give it a whack. I try this and it doesn't change at all.

Just wondering if anyone can shed some light on this

Remove and clean the sender terminal on the tank.. Or remove the whole thing and have a good look.. (checking resistance's) It would be upto you to give it a good wake.. The bonus would be you'll break something else

Cheers for your reply. I haven't had a chance to drop the tank yet but its definately on the extending to-do list. When I have a look I'll tell ya what was wrong anyway.
