I went to do an oil change on my VR and there were metal shavings in the oil, so after replacing the oil with castrol magantec the engine has been real quite.

However now it has developed a small rattle/clunk when it is first started my uncle said my bearrings could be stuffed.

If so is it worth fixing or should i just change the engine to something a little better my friend has a Ecotec and 5 speed box from a VX, that he said i could have cheap.

How many kms on your current engine ??
To change to an Ecotec, there will also be some wiring and ECU changes required.

    it has 223,000km on it.

I knew that i would need the ecu to fit, though what other wiring would be required ?

    thanks

wires needed... none, provided you have the connection loom to the trans from the ECOTEC.
