i bought a vr ss v8 not running, got told the trans needed a service and it needed a new fuel pump.

ok from the start, it turned over but wouldn't actually start, so put the new fuel pump in, still not starting

replaced the ignition module, ignition coil, regulator for the fuel next to the injectors, leads, spark plugs, rotor button, dizzy cap, oil, new water pump just cause we were doing all this other stuff

then it started YAY we thought we fixed it, pulled the motor out cause it was leaking coolant out of the motor...so replaced all the welsh plugs, put it all back together and it ran for a perfect for the week

but still have to fix the trans...did the service...no difference, no 2nd gear or 4th gear, so got a new trans...RUNS SWEET! FOR A WEEK!

so i drove to the shop and it started clunking (jarring) into second gear(engine light has been on and off since we got it started)...got home turned it off got my husband to take it for a drive...engine light on and it would jarr into second fine with other gears, so he stops at the servo turns it off and when he came out it started fine, no engine light on and it ran perfect home. so i went to the shops, it clunked into second then it started running really rough, (engine light on) so i stopped turned it off re started it ...and it started then once it started it stalled done this 3 times so i started it again reved it got the revs up but it still wanted to stall so i kept the revs up and got it home, at slow speed cause it would go anywhere.
stopped in the drive way and now it wont start again!

we are back to where we were 3 weeks ago, a car that turns over but wont start.

here is something else weird just to add to the equation...

the horn fuse keeps blowing, when i got home the last time the fuse was blown we pulled the fuse out then it idled rough, put a new fuse in and started it then running on 7 cylinders gave it a rev and it died.

now its got no spark :hmmm:

borrowed a ecu from a mates car and its still doing the same thing, turns over, wont start and no spark????
im also wondering if maybe the new trans wasn't even needed maybe it was something else

any help would be grately appreciated

not sure if it even has one but check the crank angle sensor. if it has one it should be behind the harmonic balancer.

crank angle sensor is in the distributor. it is a hall effect sensor. they are known to fail, so i'd be replacing this as a precaution.
also the plug on the side of the distributor likes to break off. possibly a good idea to replace the distributor all together.

have you thought of taking it somewhere to be properly diagnosed?

I am having it hooked up to the computer either tomorrow or Tuesday but I'm really hoping some one can give me some ideas first the weird part is that It has ran perfect for the last 2 weeks mechanicly, and I really haven't had a problem like this before so I don't know if I have guessed the right part and thats why it has been running and that has rebroken or it just decided to start and I haven't actually fixed the initial problem yet???

Would the dizzy, hall sensor make it select gears incorrectly?

No. Sounds like you have a problem with the TPS (Throttle Position Sensor). The computer scan may not show this up if it is an intermittent problem.

No spark could be the sensor in the dizzy as mentioned above, or could also be a dud coil.

Intermittent running rough and strange gear box issues at the same time as engine light on sounds like ECU Engine temperature sensor.
Not sure if it would prevent start tho, maybe you have more than one issue.

i had a mate come over last night with his computer from work, so he plugged it in and it only come up with 1 code dor the sensor in the trans, and still wouldn't wouldn't start.

so this morning we played with the dizzy and it started, so i'll just replace all the sensors and we should be back in buisiness...fingers crossed.

thanks heaps for your sugestions it has helped a billion, i'll let yous know how i go

at my guess when we did the dizzy cap, rotor button we probably knocked what ever sensor is broken and thats why its been working ???
