Hi all, I have a 93 vr 3.8. While driving home last night engine light came on. After checking today code 68(trans component slipping) came up. After seeing this I do remember the trans slipping on the upchange very slightly. This is the first time it has happened. Did'nt think much of it last night as it was minor. Obviously there is a problem which I think could be major. Tranny has fluid and is fairly clean. Could this problem be something small and easily fixed(hopeful)? or is it cactus. I certainly lack the skills to rebuild so what would be my options? Advice greatly appreciated.

l just got this problem diagnosed today... l'm sorry to say that my tranny is toast and have to buy another one. At work it's $2000 for a rebuilt/exchange unit (repco) or $600 from the local wreckers.

I got code 68 and had the same problems as you. I recommend you visit your local mechanic and describe what all the gears do. Whether it's a clunk into R or a gentle shift into D.

Don't forget the service kit and oil for the mechanic.

very true hako. I checked all that and keep a good eye (and ear) on what's going on with my car. Also forgot to mention, the guy who did my muffler system put the wrong system on and welded it backwards.... the driveshaft center bearing was backwards making it lift... So much for honest mechanics hey?
