VR ute drivers door key locking

HELP..... I have a VR ute ( actually 2 of them) and the drivers doors do not lock with the keys from outside. Passengers doors lock and unlock with the keys from outside, drivers doors will unlock provided the doors are locked from inside but will not "lock" by key from outside. There is no central locking. Anyone able to tell me if this is a common problem and if so how do I fix it. Very frustrated and have tried with a sedan and wagon but seems as they have central locking they're different. It's the ute I need to rectify the problem with. Any advice or help will be much appreciated. Thank you
