Depends on what box you have, auto or manual?

If it's manual. Something like 3.45 would be good for a bit of an increase, whilst retaining some economy. 3.7 would be better again, but your economy will suffer a bit.

If it's an auto, 3.9s are the way to go. Good increase. If you go the 3.9 in the manual, it'd give a good increase too, but you'd be changing gears way to often.

It also depends on how you drive and where most often.
Frequent city driving might be better with a lower gearing.
But, like in an area where I live out in the country, with lots of open road driving, taller gearing might be better, for better economy at continued higher speeds than city driving. :)

Exactly. Quite a number of factors before deciding on exactly what you want to do.

That's one of the main reasons I haven't changed mine over yet.

Yes.

VT, VX, VY are all Ecotec Engines
VZ has an Alloytec.

As for the sound of the engines with an exhaust, I'm really not sure. Depends what your after. Youtube would be a good start there.

Basically they all sound pretty much the same, they all sound like V6's, the only reason they would be different stock, would be differences in the design of the stock exhaust for each car, but basically the same.
