Want to switch the center air vents with my head Unit and vice versa.. Has anyone done it before and if so what is involved? Cheers
well first you would have to some how make up your own heater venting system and cut the heater box , and like jonno said no point
Cut/extend the harness then get to fibreglassing, only way to make it fit properly and look even ok.. What do you want to put where the stereo usually goes?
@sweetfu. Going to put the vents there, re-routing them off the ducts to the back. Got it all worked out, shouldn't be to hard to do in fact. I wanna do it, cos it'll look good, Simple!
What's with the location of the power window switches?? Came out looking better than I thought it would - congrats!
It's different, and looks like you did a very good job mate. But I still think its pointless, your aircon vents are pointing at your gearstick.
Looks neat. Anyone would think it was factory. (anyone who got in a didn't know anything about the genuine setup that is) What did you use for rerouting the A/C down further?
hmm looks alright but not a fan lol, only advantage i see is you dont have to tke your eyes off the road as much.
Looks like a car audio installer has pulled apart your dash then gone **** where did these go again. Looks wrong and is pretty pointless but each to their own I own I suppose.
I just want to say again, it looks like a very professional job, it wouldn't have been a very easy task for most. Well done again mate.
Thanks to all, It really works for me,makes sense and much more user friendly. Unless you really want it, its a bit of work. Head Unit Wires were easy enough to reroute, as they run underneath the dash anyways. The A/C being lower wasn't an issue as the vents swivel upwards, used a plastic container and some hose to "tap in" to the ducts (from both sides) that run to the rear seats and blocked off the port that went to the original vents. This actually worked for the better as it changed the airflow directing more air to the door and rear vents (where the "new" vents). Better airflow all round now! The Vents once detached were cut and pretty much fit perfectly into the headunit surround, with about a 10mm gap on either side, a bit of araldite to hold it all in and bog to fill in the aesthetics went down a treat. The instrument panel surround was less cooperative, had to enlarge the hole width-ways (into the speed alert cavity) and fill it in height-ways. Pretty much a perfect fit behind for a standard unit, rests right on the port (now blocked) for the old vents and just clips in. Bit of Satin Black Paint to finish it all off and it came up nice. Real happy with it!
OP - wow that would have taken alot of work! Looks good (on 4th look) & I imagine it works very well for you, just not a Commodore anymore IMO. Pros would be :- you can reach & adjust the vents much easier & Cons would be :- indistinctly going to adjust stereo without looking & reaching for the ducts, guess you'd get used to it after awhile (I use the remote these days, much more function control & less wear n tear on the little HU buttons etc).
