Vs 304
Hey chaps
Really hoping someone can point me in the right direction.

I have done a 304 conversion on my 99 VS. the ECU, trans and wiring loom came from a VR berlina 94.

Had the vats removed and it runs great BUT.
The Speedo isn't working and the trans is stuck in limp mode.

After 50,000 hours of testing and diagrams and searching forums
I've found the engine loom pinout matches a VS 304.

Speed sensor is blue/white and tan directly into the ECU. Continuity tests fine

Single violet/white wire coming from ECU into the 3rd small plug goes directly to the Speedo cluster also tests fine.

I've checked the pink/blue wire going to the trans plug to make sure it has 12v ignition as this is for the solenoids.

I'm really hoping someone has ran into this issue I can't possibly be the only one haha.
I understand VR to VS has some changes but from what I can see the speed sensor goes directly to the ECU (high and low signal) and then the ECU spits out a signal to the dash.

Any advice would be magic!
Thanks heaps!

Any fault codes come up?

Should be some if in limp mode vss will be intermittent but trans fault will be instant limp mode like it's stuck in 2nd or 3rd gear won't even do a burnout.

Had vss issue on vs s3 setup in torrie didn't fit trans tunnel also had trans issue when put vs s2 in vp ute.

Everything hooked up in patch harness or did you re route wires to match car?

The problem I have with the codes is that it is obd1 and I don't have a scan tool to scan it lol!
Yeh the trans is stuck in 3rd gear, I can manually shift down to 2nd but not 3rd and 4th.
How did you sort the VSS signal in the S3 you did? Cause mine is a 99 S3 also

For the wiring there was only the 2 plugs in the engine bay from engine loom to body, I just extended those wires and kept it wired the same as it was. It was all colour for colour anyways

How on earth did you manage to wire it up & run yet don't know how to check codes?

Don't need a scanner look it up on forum or YouTube.. bridge pins 5 & 6 on aldl plug above brake pedal.

If done patch harness correctly everything should work as normal factory car.

Because I don't have an expensive scan tool lol. This is a one time project for me. I have an autel maxi scan but it doesn't do OBD1 without a subscription and an extra module.

speed sensor is wired to the ecu but is the speed sensor working ? just use multimeter on a/c volts and connect to both the wires and it should have a voltage that increases with speed shown on the multimeter (should be pulsing but meter wont pick that up so only shows voltage)
