Like stocky said, theres no such thing as a cop chip, unless your talking macca's fries., in which case, they will be in a red container, not dissimilar to the ones you buy yourself (cept they pay half price)

Well the old head unit has been giving me trouble recently...cutting in and out and doing wierd things so I pulled the old Sony unit (XR-7070 circa 1991 - yes it is older than the car) out today.

Thanks very much to Atriedae for his excellent How To with great photos and simple wording - https://forums.justcommodores.com.a...-vr-vs-vq-vg-headunit-guide-56k-warning.32298 - for helping make it a pretty simple job in the end.

Tried cleaning the contacts as suggested by holdenboy in another thread with cotton buds and rubbing alchohol. Geez were they dirty but unfortunately it didn't make any difference. Still cutting in and out at irregular intervals.

So with the dash in bits on the back seat, time to go shopping.

Didn't want to spend too much (I'm not much of a doof doof head). Endned up grabbing one of these - Car CD player with direct iPod® control - DEH-2100IB :: Pioneer Australia - for $190. Think I got a reasonable deal.

It comes with an ipod cable as well so ran this to the glovebox to keep it out of the way.

Connected up nice and easy, put the dash back together and now I have tunes again.....and they don't sound too bad either. Hooray !!!

It's the first stereo install I've done since I put one in my LX Torana in the late 80's so pretty happy with the end result.

Have recently had a slowly worsening vibration generally between 1600 & 2000 rpm whether reving in park/neutral or driving at any speed. Most irritating between around 85 - 100 km p/h when sitting in that rev range.

Had it in for a service and replaced the following ;-

Engine & Gearbox mounts (were collapsed & or split)
Water pump (noisy bearings but not yet leaking - better to be safe than sorry)
Harmonic Balancer (vibration hadn't gone after changing the mounts)
Heater tap (so that's where the coolant was going !)

Appears the harmonic balancer was the culprit for the vibration as changing the mounts didn't really effect the vibration a great deal.

The car is much more enjoyable to drive now. Just have to find a replacement butt masager !!
