use a multimeter to test resistance with the peddle both in or out

Where would I test resistance? Across the switch? I'm not familiar with the use of multimeters but I'll give it a go. Gonna try the test light first till I can get my hands on a metre

either way. the only time you have to worry about the way the prongs are is for testing volts. as you arent testing how much power is getting thru it wont matter. use the lowest setting on the ohm section.

ok so i got a reading of around 12.5 on the 20k setting, depress the pedal and it drops to 0, my line of thinkin suggests that zero resistance with the pedal pushed in means the switch is working......

so by process of elimination, switch fuse and globes are ok, therefore i must have a bad earth....

hi resistance with peddle out is normal. sounds like you have a dodgie earth or a break in the line. use the volts setting and test on both sides of the switch with the ignition on. and both in released and depressed peddle.

no worries. if you get the same power on either side of the switch then its further down the line

constant power on one side. the other side was intermittent. push the pedal in, get power. push it in again, no power. tried quite a few times and got no voltage on that side of the switch a LOT more times than i got voltage.
so now im thinking switch again, a bad earth further down the line wouldnt show up at the switch would it

no worries mate. simple to track the problem and replace. i just bought $10 from ripco last week. i think every one should have a multimeter in their toolbox

Switch was only 10 bucks from a local autoparts shop. Wouldn't have even attempted it if it hadn't been for this forum and it members.
