Hi all. 3 months ago i had a rebuilt auto with stage 2 shift kit put into my commodore because the original one died. Iv done 4000kms on it and it seems to be acting strange. Its got enough fluid and smells fine and color is good. When accelerating it drops gears more than usual, I will be accelerating from 90-100 (not hard) and it will drop from 4th into second. WTF!!! Its only started doing this in the last week. Also cruising at 80 the torque converter will lock and unlock every 5-10 seconds. And when pressing the "power" button at any speed below 80 the revs drop to 1100rpm and send a vibration through the car which can both be felt and heard. At WOT the shifts are still megga hard, but around town style driving the shifts feel like the fall into gear and a "clunk" can be heard when changing. Im thinking, as its under warrantee (12 month, 20,000kms on the reco auto) do i take it in and get them to service and inspect the box (would this be under warrantee?), or do i just wait for it to die? and get them to replace it again? Also what might be causing these problems?
they wont charge me for anything i hope. Im not too happy, i spent 2k on the box and its gone all soft on me after 4000kms. Ill book it in for wednesday and drop it off on my way to work.
The problem with alot of these replacement boxs are they are only rebuilds and unless the person rebuilt it properly (e.g not rushed it out the door or bodgily threw things together) then this can be the result! Definetly go back and get them to sort it out!!
When i took the car in the first time my auto was completely stuffed. T-C was dead, cracked flex plate, servo was stuffed, solenoids gone! They said they could rebuild it or they had a box sitting on the shelf which had been reco and not used. And that they would chuck in the shift kit. I just gave them a call, its booked in for tuesday arvo for an inspection. I hope that they can work some magic.
What brand shiftkit is it? Or is it one of those 'shiftkits' that trans places say they do themselves?
At Pakenham Automatics, i was recommended by a mate but i dont trust em. First they thrash my car, now the auto is ****ing itself again. Ill be sending it elsewhere if i need more work its a transgo shift kit, but with standard servo, not the chev/vette
WOOOOW WOOOOW. pakky auto is very good. never heard bad things from them. When i lived in pakky my housemate got her car serviced there all the time, and most off the ppl i knew around there got it done there. So not sure why it shat itself then...
do a diognostic on the car.Sounds like your talk converter is trying to lock and unlock at the same time.Sounds like a electrical prob.i have read that a faulty tps can do this or a tps thats not calibrated right.Been looking into this my self as my box is stuffed.I get a masive shuder at 3 1/2 to 4 g and dont no what it is.
yer id say that would be the torque converter. (yours) mine might be the TPS, i wont have this one in much longer as im getting twin throttle setup. But its worth a look. thanks
