i have a vs series 2 with a v6 with an auto,,,,i have had the auto serviced but for some time now when i give the car full aceleration it will rev out first gear and then when it should change into 2nd its like the car hits nutral and the engine just free revs it also happens on the other gears but only if you put your foot to the floor when driveing the car normally at normal revs the auto works perfectly and even when towing a trailot it is fine it only happens at hi revs any ideas??????????? also it has correct level of fluid clean filter ect
Check the ecu for error codes. How many km's has the auto done? Try a bottle of nulon transmission treatment (about $15) in the trans The higher an engine revs the more hp it's putting out, sounds like the trans is on it's way out and just can't handle the power.
Might need to take a video of it doing it. For mine it was normal for the car to rev its tits off at WOT. I would imagine if you put the gas to the floor and the car jumped into neutral it would just hit rev cut till you take your foot off the gas again.
Mr vr does the se thing if i boot it. Will rev out to the limiter and them shift to second. Mind you, i dont mind. Doin 80-85 in first feels great
heh i had a v6 that hit the rev limiter in 1st once...... i say once cause it spun a big end bearing as a result, higher km engines really don't like being buzzed like that.
No hako, i should specify a bit better lol, ive heard there is a sensor to line up what gear your in (i could be wrong im still learning cars and it wasnt an ultra reliable source who told me lol)
I think you're talking about the pressure switch assembly, can't really get dirty (if it got dirty then you have something more serious to be worrying about) or be misaligned (the pressure pads are much larger diameter than the oil holes feeding them and over lap quite alot), they generally either work or they don't, it also has the temp sensor build into it. Once again it would throw an error code if this part of the trans was failing and you'd most likely be in lhm and missing gears. As above if everything checks out as the OP stated in the first post that the oil level is correct and not burnt then the next step is to check the pcm for codes instead of blindly thinking it's this or that (diagnostic mode is there to help diagnose a fault). It could be the tc is on it's way out, clutch packs are worn, vss, a blown seal in the trans, a faulty solenoid, stuck/worn check ball, tps, it could be any number of other things...............
well i can say the oil is clean the filter is clean no friction material in sump no burnt smell to oil,i just drive it at low rpm to baby it will take it to someone to check codes ect as i dont know how to do that thanks for the info, the car has just clicked over 190,000 and i got it off a guy who was 70 years old but still it may need a rebuild or freshen up the only thing that makes me think its a sensor or something like that is i know it hasnt been treated harshly and have service books from new and there isnt any friction material in the filter or sump so it may be one of the things you guys have mentioned, when i get it sorted i will let you know what it was thanks for the info
The first owner of my VS was an old guy. He used it to tow a boat alot. Anyway long story short the trans blew up at 100,000k's
luckily checking for codes isn't to hard and all you need is a paper clip, pen and paper and some time to watch the flashing cel http://forums.justcommodores.com.au...22307-checking-error-codes-vr-vs-revised.html then look up what they mean http://justcommodores.com/articles/vs_computer_v6.php then some more searching to pinpoint what is causing it.
Had the exact same problem with my old mans old calais im pretty sure it was the solenoid or something like that... But even my mates vn wagon used to do exact same thing ill double check next time i see my dad but from what i remember it wasnt a big drama we put a new box in the calais and then drove up to nelson bay no dramas (towing 2 jet skis)
