HI all I have a VS commodore that just died. Seems the Main engine Fuse (20amp Blade) has blown, so i replaced it and that blu as well, tried a few different ones and they all are blowen. SO i guess there is a short somewhere. If there are any Auto sparkies here, what sort of money would it take to fix? Seem the fuse blows as soon as the engine cranks to start. Completley died while driving. Basically i want to know what sort of money i would be up for as its pretty close to Xmas and not a good time for this **** to happen.
AN update This morning i put in a new fuse and the car started. But as soon as i accelerate the car died, blew the main fuse again
Having a look now, that fuse looks like it supplies power to the EFI relay, oil pressure switch, fuel pump relay, fuel pump, ECU - possibly more. I would start by swapping the EFI relay and fuel pump relay - see how that goes. Next buy a new oil pressure switch and put that in. Pretty cheap and easy to install. If that doesnt fix it may be the fuel pump at fault. Hope this helps.
i'll put 2 bob on the fuel pump or oil switch. Maybe oil pressure switch as oil pressure would go up with a rev, so it might be shorting out under pressure.
had the same problem with a mates vn a few months ago, cleaned off the wires going to the starter motor and has been working fine since. but your car started but his wouldnt.
Try pulling the fuel pump relay - if the fuse does not blow when trying to start then put relay back in...try to start and then if it does blow the fault is probably a short in the fuel pump or the wiring to the pump.
Ok, just to let other people suffering this problem as well know that my brother changed his oil pressure switch and it fired right up and worked just fine, please try this first as it is often the problem and is probably one of the cheapest things you can do in order to try and fix it, my brother wasted over 500 trying different things just to get his vs ute working when all it needed was a bloody $30 oil pressure switch. hope this helps
