the struts have little clips u pull away from the strut, then pull the strut off the ball.

then unbolt the hinges from the bonnet. then lift.

use 2 people to do it.

ah yeh..will give it a crack this weekend.
also the strut bar bent in half and stabbed the radiator, obiviously his getting a new radiator but does he need a new strut bar? or can we take that 1 off and hammer it straight again?

If the car is a VS then you will probably be getting a secondhand bonnet with the heat stuff under the bonnet. The strut thing you talk about - is that the bit that has the bonnet release mechanism in it? - if so then the alignment of that item is critical as it determines the exact location of each mudguard.

sorry, i thought you meant the gas struts that hold it up.

athe heat stuff you dont have to worry about putting back on, its not needed, you can if you want though.

You could be right about the gas struts!!! - if they break at the mudguard end they can shoot forward and puncture the radiator.:)

nah the bar that bent was the bar infront of the radiator thats meant to protect it. the things that hold it up are fine.

Thanks people got it done today.
Wrecked the pin that goes in at the front of the bonnet that holds down the thing that makes it lock/unlock (while taking it off the old bonnet), but just put a screw in with acouple of nuts on the end and she works fine.
