I have bought an 80L tank, sender, straps, fuel pump, the whole lot. It's going into my VN s1 V6.

The original 63L tank has 2 plugs on the sender unit external to the tank, a round 2pin plug and a straight 2pin plug.

The new 80L tank has only the one plug, a 4 pin straight plug.

Anyone able to tell me what goes where?

Sam

I have the books at home - I can look up the wiring diag later - I have both V8 & V6 so should be able to find where the extra wire goes

Wiring, not yet... need to source a plug to suit the 4 pin socket on the new tank before anything else.

I will let you know on fitment when I get to that :)

I'm paying 200 for this one, including pump, sender, straps, etc etc

OK to tidy up this thread for anyone who might care, I ended up soldering the VS fuel pump plug onto the body loom side. This matched up nicely with the VS fuel pump's own plug :) Can't remember if I did the sender plug as well or if it was all the same plug.... either way it's not hard. The wires were even the same colour.

Tank fit beautifully, is silver with black straps and definitely tidies up the rear of the car a lot. With the tank, a dual rear sway setup and the whole rear axle all painted up it's starting to look a bit tidy under there :)

I fitted an 80ltr tank straight in to my 1988 VN Calais without any problems at all.
I purchased the tank from the wreckers and I made sure that I got the wright gear
with it, eg: tank straps and I got the external fuel pump as well as the internal
fuel pump and make sure of the fuel pump connections.
All of this was from the same vechile, a VQ Statesman except for the tank straps
that came from a VN sedan.
My suggestion to you would have been to make sure
what you needed before purchasing and make sure that
you get the wright tank straps, the Statesman straps are
the wrong ones.
You need the straps from an 80ltr sedan tank as I found
out.
My 80ltr tank is fitted with out any problems and is going
well, it just costs a bit more to fill the tank now, you just
feel it in the hip pocket.
If I was you I would go back to where you purchased your
tank and see if you can exchange the fuel pump for a
VN 80ltr fuel pump as this would solve all of your problems.
I hope that this information will help you, good luck with
your endevours.

Cheers.
