G'day ladies and gents

The opportunity has arisen for me to trade in my wish-I-was-a-VS-club-sport for a 97 VS Calais Supercharged.

Now before I commit to the purchase, there are a couple of things I'd like to know. For example, which features are standard in Calais and which are optional?

Is premium unleaded mandatory? (assuming stock boost) and can I use e10? In other words, does it equate to premium?

I'll probably think of some more soon. :)

It is recommended that you use AT LEAST 95RON premium unleaded. Even with standard boost. Anything less that that and it will ping and cause you problems in the long run. IRS is standard in the calais too. It's important to look for tyre wear on the inside of the rears. Be cautious if it's scrubbing really bad. Typical Holden IRS.

You will love it...

About the only option the other guys have missed is LSD, standard gear on the Calais is pretty damned good, but then you would hope so, being a calais...

Yes you will need at least BP Premium or equiv, if you are planning on upping the boost you'll need to go to Ultimate, so keep that in mind. As far as running costs, it will use a couple more L/100Km with normal driving and a bit of booting :p plus obviously the added cost of premium. Dunno how E5, E10 etc work in it.

And the Calais has extra sound deadener throughout the body...and lets not forget the remote boot release...and electric arial which goes down when you turn off the ignition... the headlight timer is cool... you can set it to stay on for a while when you exit and lock the car to see where your going and it will turn itself off...You'll never lock your keys in the car either it's idiot proof...and it will turn off the lights if you forget to when you turn the igniton off so you'll never get a flat battery from leaving the lights on overnight.
