I have a couple of questions if anyone can help me before I go spending money;

1) What internal diameter is a VS Clubby brake master cylinder? (I am looking to purchase one, but the seller said that the size is not printed on the m/cyl)
2) If it is 1", will the master cylinder bolt straight up to a VR SS (car has ABS, & current m/cyl is 15/16) or do I require the booster also?

I have read threads on this topic and believe that a VT m/cylinder requires a custom bracket made to fit, and also there is an issue with brake pushrod length.
Is a VS HSV brake m/cyl a way around this issue, or is the VS Clubby just an early version of the VT setup?

My vehicle is a 94 VR SS with ABS, VT front brakes and VE rear brakes. It pulls up really good, but the pedal travels a wee way before anything starts to happen. (the car is still miles better than the original brake setup, but just looking to improve it slightly (and cheaply))

Refer to the description below from the VS Holden Service CD. Looks like you will need the brake booster as well as the brake master cylinder. It may improve your brake pedal travel concern.

"Unlike VR Series Models, a common master cylinder with a 7/8" diameter bore is used on vehicles with standard and ABS brakes. The only difference being that the master cylinder used with ABS has a screw in blanking plug installed and tightened into the lower of the two front brake outlets in the master cylinder. The only other difference in master cylinders between VS Series Models is that the Utility Model does not have a proportioning valve incorporated into the master cylinder design.

The master cylinder is a centre valve type master cylinder of a different design to previous models and incorporates a fast fill valve which provides reduced pedal travel. The tandem master cylinder is mounted to the vacuum brake booster which in turn, is mounted to the engine side of the dash panel."

The differences between an HSV and "normal" V8 are very small. Master cylinders and booster are the same. VS Clubsport uses the same brakes as a normal VS V8, VS GTS has different front and rear calipers/rotors/pads.

So is it really worth me getting a VS HSV Master cylinder & Booster, or should I be searching a little later model? I am happy to leave it how it is for quite a while longer if I have to wait for the right thing to turn up?

Sorry, can't help you any further. I answered your questions re VS master cylinders. If you want to find out how to fix the long pedal travel with VT brakes you need to do a search. There are a number of posts that discuss how to fix the pedal travel issue.
