Hey guys, i used to have a VR commodore, 3.8l, used to be able to put my foot on the brake, and sit there and bag it up, but now i have a VS commodore 3.8, when i sit on the brake and pump the accelerator, she doesnt bag up, barely does a spin, just revs... Am i doing somehting wrong?? LOL BTW, these are performed on PRIVATE PROPERTY, AWAY FROM OTHER CARS/PEOPLE
Was the VR live axle or IRS? Is the VS IRS? Its easier to break traction in live axle car compared to an IRS car. It's a bit tricky to explain but in an IRS car the rear squats when you put power through, IRS was designed to improve handling. Live axle doesn't squat and has no camber, hence easier to break traction.
My Ecotec VS bags up easy as hell, with that being said it is a live axle model. So unless like iaydemir said about the IRS thing, perhaps your car isn't running at it's full potential.
go buy your self 2 brake line clamps and put them on the back brake lines problem solved just rember to take them off after your done
Back in the old FJ days (with a 65hp engine), a mate of mine rigged up a drip feed system which dripped old engine oil on to one of the rear wheels on command. Tyres of course were skinny crossplies usually bald or regrooved. They smoked beautifully and retreads basically exploded.
VR / VS totally different engine. VR has alot more Torque down low. where as the VS has more top end. if you want to just do stand stills on a stock car buy a VR unless you can learn to control it properly then you wont need the breaks as much
hey mate, i think most of the reason would be the IRS they bog down when under acceleration and when you try do brake jobs. I tried many times with my VS only way to do is start them spinning before you jump on the brake.
doubt its the IRS my old VR had an IRS LSD and it lit up both rears and just sat there with ease, the VS does them easy enough but not as effortlessly as the VR used to, however my VS is easily quicker on the freeway.
While the buick and ecotec are different engines with different torque curves, it sounds more like a trans issue to me as he says it just revs and spins a little. How is your trans fluid?
My filthy old vs wag could get the wheels going easy thinkies theres something wrong with your vs cuz
i had a similar prob before i converted mine over to manual......whenever i tried to wick it up the car would just rev it arse and off and slowly creap forward, i replaced brake pads and problem solved, wicked up no problems, i suggest if you want skids though put a manual in it you won't regret it.
the tranny in ur vs could be crap, maybe the rear vs brakes are working better than ur vr brakes were, stickier tyres... not really good for ur driveline anyway.
