hi

I have a 95 VS commodore and every 12 months the coolant go's brown and has a brown slime under the radiator cap my car doesn't leak anything or blow smoke, runs perfect.
(I do flush my radiator out and bleed it when i change the coolant)

Does anyone know what the problem could be?

thank you

Have you always owned the car?

A previous owner could have put water in it as opposed to you putting coolant in it.

Water contains all sorts of minerals that will turn brown with heat and cause build-ups within the engine block.

This may result in your coolant turning brown.

^^^^ I'd go with mineral build-up in the water galleries.

I would wager that if you hade a look in almost every commodores (or any make for that matter) water galleries, they would be yellow/brown coloured.

holden genuwine coolent is green, the thing that turns the coolent brown is the pellets whaich are seal agents for the water pump.

is it a light brown coulor as in oil from the inlet manifold gaskets leaking of more of a deeper brown from the crap build up in the water galleries as mentioned before.

Can you describe the "slime" a bit more? Is it kind of milky or creamy? What colour and consistency is it?
