hey, replaced my diff center a while ago with a seconhand uknown condition on as mine munched up the spider gears (normal single spinner diff) car only had like 100 000 on it now this center is ####ed to, anyway there is allot of movement wen i shak the wheel side to side etc, and makes a bad clunking noise i replaced teh wheel bearing and its still got play, but i know the center is ####ed as theres heaps of metal stuff in the oil (not shavings but metalised oil lol) could teh movement be from teh center? also going to put a center out of a VS ute into it that says HIGH PERFORMANCE, does that mean i gotta use a different oil? i dnt thik its a LSD cheers
the vs ute diff will use just normal diff oil, wont need anything special. carrier bearings in the diff stuffed?? did you set the preload on them correctly when you fitted the other centre?
High performance tag may indicate that it's a LSD centre. until you see the centre you can never be 100% certain. when the 1st centre was replaced was the diff washed out properly to ensure no other debris contamination? there normally is a fair amount of backlash in the spider gears so that's not a great indicator on it's own. did you use the original crown wheel when you fitted the replacement centre?
thanks for teh rep[lys, wen i refited the replacement center it was a quick fix solution so i didnt actually set it properly but reused teh original crownwheel and i think the same washers/spacers from teh replacement center, i also replaced teh oil since then (bout 4 months after) and it was clean with sum metalic stuff that was left in there from teh original diff, this times its full of metalic oil plus theres a bad rumbling noise wen i jake teh car up and spin the passenger wheel *(comming from the center) drivers side isnt as bad but its still got teh same noise as teh passenger side also it locks both wheels up round corners and goes clunkty bang wen i put foot down(like most but its getting really bad), im just gonna put the center from the utes diff in it untill i get a recoed diff or similar, so normals 80/90 diff oil? wat if i use a heavier grade? such as 90/140 or watever the next step up is?
