My VS seems to be using coolant but i can see any leaks. I thought about the cap being crook but it does suck the water back from the overflow bottle. I have put in some Radiator Sealer to see what happens The Engine runs fine. There is now water in the oil. So i cant understand where its is going Has anyone come across this problem before :bang:
i ahd all sorts of issues with mine for years, fixed one leak, found another sort of deal. in the end it was the new radiator cap that i had fitted(yes it was the correct pressure, repalced it with the exact same item again), it was letting to much pressure bypass it into the overflow bottle, this then lost it out the overflow pipe (next to the battery) very annoying. unfortunatly the intake gaskets are a common problem on the ecotecs. put a spanner on the intake manifold bolts, i wouldn't be suprised in you found a couple a little loose
OK Thanks for the info. Seems to add up I guess Inlet Manifold gaskets are not too hard to replace if thats the problem I will try the tighten it up trick first Thanks again
intake manifold gaskets, side tanks on the radiator, water pump and all very common issues on the VS. Get a torch and have a look around the vally to look for coolent, if nothing have a look at the water pump. Do it when cold and when warm. If there is any water/coolent around the pump its the gasket. A new pump is about $40 off ebay or $100 from autobarn and is pretty easy to fix. Radiator is pretty easy to replace also. A few easy check is to go for a drive, till the car is warm, pull over and put pressure on the hoses, if the hoses are very easy to compress, this would indicate that the radiator cap is not holding pressure, and needs replacing. Its possible that coolent is overflowing from the over flow bottle. Even with a waterpump leak/vally leak the hoses should still get compression as the leak is very minor. DIY of these parts are about RADIATOR: $120 PUMP: $40-100 CAP: $9 VALLY GASKET: $120 ish (its not easy to do because of the injectors etc)
