VS ecotec Throttle Body Ok, so yesterday i thought i'd give the missus car a birthday and do some much required maintenance. pulled of the TB to give it a good clean as you do and i noticed that on the lower side if the TB there is a machined ridge behind the butterfly which basically means that the bottom side of the butterfly isn't uncovered until the TB is approx 15% open. what would be the reason for this? all i can think of is that it would reduce throttle responce as this ridge will reduce the flow capacity of the TB by 50% until this ridge has been uncovered. :bang: I aslo noted that when the butterfly is fully opened against the throttle stop the butterfly isn't infact all the way open, this is something that greenfoam first noticed in the VN - VP forum and the easy fix is to grind the throttle stop a little untill the butterfly is fully open which i have already done. i'm thinking of taking to the ridge in the TB with a die grinder next week unless there is some good technical reason for this ridge being there:yeah:
I have wondered about this too, i guess if your drawing more air in at low throttle applications it also will use more fuel as your MAF sensor will detect the higher flow rate. At the same time u will obviously get get better flow during low throttle applications (which is most of your driving) as this ridge does limit the opening to just the top half of the butterfly when for example 15% throttle is applied. Im guessing it will make the engine slighly more responsive down low?? Anyone else have any ideas and would it b worth it removing the ridge?
The ridge is there precisely for the reason immortality suggested; to modify the throttle response and avoid sales reps unintentionally spinning the tyres on a wet road, a common thing with VN-VR.
Cheers, do you think it would do any benefit at all im guessing probably not but with fuel prices im looking at each and every way to make any savings in fuel.
