Simple question, Engine (ecotec) is out to fix up a bunch of stuff, wanting to know what would be recommended to tackle while its out.
No conversions etc are on the cards for now, its a daily that is soon to crack the 500 mark, still going solid.
Before pulling it out it ran smooth, just had a bunch of typical leaks.

Current list has
Visual stuffs
-Touch up paint in the bay
-Clean off years of oil/dirt build up from small leaks

Mechanical
-Power Steering Res and Hoses
-Radiator and Hoses
-Water Pump
-Thermostat and Housing
-Clutch Slave.
-Clutch Pedal bushings
-Oils (Gearbox inc), Coolant, Power Steering fluids
-Filters/Plugs (General service stuff)
-Rear main seal and plate
-Engine Mounts
-Knock sensor plugs (Busted 1 taking it off)
-Driveshaft Diff Bolts Any suggestions on where to get these?
-Reverse Light Switch
-Short Shifter (Its a getrag afterall)
-Oxy Sensors
-Exhaust Manifold bolts
-New gaskets for whatever is easy to get to while on a stand.

Thoughts on stuff like redoing some of the split conduit or other elec loom stuff or any other hoses/clamps or hard to access bits?
Any other motor ancillaries?
Harmonic Balancer?

Not considering the following
Steering Rack will get done down the track.
Idler pulley, Belt and Clutch are reasonably new so not in this project.
Air Con was fixed 2 years ago so that runs well.
Brakes are good has newish booster and that side of it.

pretty much got it all covered there, do the front balancer seal and if taking sump off give it and the oil pickup a good clean out.
replace any worn nuts and bolts
replace coolant hoses / heater tap/ hoseclamps if you have not done so recently
powersteering system maybe add a cooler if you'd like to
gearbox just inspect seals see if they need to be replaced.

may as well give the loom a good going over for any broken, corroded connections, replace split tube, that will take just as much time as re gasketing the motor,

Sweet as.
Appreciate that extra info.

I've added balancer and front seal.
Will suss out timing chain.
Sump will be coming off.

Gearbox seals need doing. Have them here. It's been leaking out the back by the looks of it.

Most plugs look good, but will give it a good once over. Only that 1 knock sensor plug got snapped taking it off. Will grab some split conduit and fix up worn bits.
Heater tap/hoses are good.

In the end I guess it's not a full rebuild just a tidy up so may aswell get everything within reason while access is there.
It will be getting a pressure wash aswell (taping/covering up all bits)

Reason for not doing power steering rack is I'll get the mechanics to do that with the hoist. Might be later in the year.

If anything else is thought of just shout out.

Should have the clean up and touch up paint of the bay done tomorrow at this rate.

Your list is decent, be interested in some images along the way ;)

If your dropping the sump, check the bearings on the crank too

If you are doing the p/s hoses and reservoir, you might as well do the rack....Taking out and putting the rack back in whilst the engine is out makes life so much easier.....No exhaust pipe in the way of the intermediate shaft...Not sump to worry about taking the rack out and putting back in....You'll have to bleed the rack up with the replacement parts you are doing anyway...As an added bonus, saves you the money paying someone to remove it and re-fit it....

Yeah looks like the rack will be getting done, been coaxed into it.
Just waiting on the bill/price for everything and will go from there.

Just need to figure out where to get the driveshaft bolts and that clutch pedal bush from.
All others seem to just be parts from stores.

As a guide, about 3 years ago, I had a manual rack rebuilt and it set me back around the $300 mark...Not 100% sure on the exact price especially being that long ago. I might be able to find the receipt for it if required

I know you wanted to do it later, but the way I look at things is, if I need something done and there is an opportunity to do it easier and cheaper, I do jump onto it there and then....

Clutch bush...Try Australian clutch services....

ph 1800 258 824....

Email sales @ australianclutch.com.au

They are located in S.A but are an Australian wide clutch supplier...They might have the bush you require....

IMA I have dealt with them a few times in the past and had no problems with them

Good luck with it all...The end result will be worth the headaches :)
