Hey guys, for anyone who owns / has owned a VS HSV, have you noticed on the top lip of the air intake snorkel on top of the radiator, the lip looks like it comes away from the rest of the snorkel, and it has 3 little silver screw kinda looking things in it. Anyone know if this lip DOES come away by drilling those little screws out? I was going to file the top lip back a little bit to let a little more air through, as the opening on the factory HSV air snorkels are pretty ****weak. But if i can actually drill the 3 little screw looking things away and take that lip off, it would be perfect.
i dont know what ures is like but with my bros vr senator the cai actually has no bottom on it, take yours off and see.
I might go have a real good look. I might take that top lip off anyway if i can, it just opens it up more. I haven't really noticed if it had no bottom or not ^^. And before anyone suggests it, i will NOT be heating it up and bending it open as so many people do.
Now you mention it, i just realised the CAI is a one piece thing, it's the CAI snorkel and radiator fan shroud / cover all in one. And that whole piece screws onto the top of the radiator, so i'd say it doesn't have a bottom on it.
Yeah it has no bottom dude, just screws onto the fan shroud, once you take it off you will notice how cheap and crap it really is lol
Hahaha, yeah i just did, it really is stupid, cheap and crap LOL!! The V6 ones are heaps better than the ****ty factory HSV 304 ones. Oh well, i managed to drill those screws out, it was like an extra steel lip that slides over the edge of the top lip on the snorkel, pointless really, all it did was make the snorkel mouth narrower, now if i cut and sand the top lip back about half centimetere, it will open the mouth up a fair bit, without it looking gay or messing with the snorkel in any way. Now i just gotta find the energy to do it one day after work lol.
can ya maybe put some spacers at the front/underneath the cai to sorta lift it a bit to let more air in? might be better than cutting it back?
It's not too bad, there is like an indented lip that almost looks like it was meant to be cut back for more air, but obviously that's not it's purpose. If i file it back and sand it with some 1000 grit paper it would look alright. I'll have a stab on the weekend. The only problem i could see with spacers is not being able to close the bonnet properley. I'll try both, couldn't hurt.
Im extremely disapointed by the HSV intake when i shut my bonnet it doesnt even look like it lets any air in! when i first saw it i wanted to change it but I have a habit of ruining things so i just left it alone. Doesnt seem to be much room to run a front bar cai either for me, yet the clubsport front bar is perfect for a CAI front pipe.. I was gonna take the whole thing off and put something else there but it will stay for now
cobez, why dont you want to heat it with a heat gun? it will look a hell of a lot better than a cut up intake. easy to do as well
Nah if i cut it and sand it back, it will look fine  If i hack it and leave it, then it will look ****.
On a standard car the HSV CAI sucks in more than enough air. You are wasting your time for little gain (although it might make you feel better). The limitation on air flow is the bunch of bananas manifold rather than the CAI.
