Hi everyone, if my instrument cluster was not plugged in , would that have any effect on the engine running ?

Thanks that was a quick reply ! I was driving my vs today and all of a sudden it had no acceleration and engine died. I let it sit for a 20 minutes, it started again , then 5 minutes of driving , engine died. I fixed the air conditioner today ( small filter under the headunit) and removed the instrument cluster. I drove without the cluster in , thought that might be the problem. What's your opinion, seems like a overheating issue, thermostat, water pump etc..

If its a V6 it's probably related to the crank angle sensor. Intermittent signal can be an issue when they get old. Spark and fuel rely on the signal from the CAS.

It is a V6 . I had a trailer full of timber on the back and the aircon on , then the engine done this. It was driving fine yesterday. I just thought I may have touched something under the dash whilst removing the cluster. I value your opinion , as it most likely is the solution.
