VS - Live tuning hardware & software

Hey Guys, I have been reading , reading and reading some more and am looking for a straight answer. I have the eprom programmer and software part sorted.
what i am after is the cheapest way to achieve live tuning for a VS 5ltr. What hardware do i need and what software do i need. I am transferring the engine into my VH.

Any help will be greatly appreciated. I apologize the area has probably been discussed time and time again. Just after some clarification. Thanks.
