so the other night i was driving my mates manual vy around cause he'd been drinking. ive been really 50/50 on wether to go to the trouble of making my vs a manual or auto and after driving my mates manual i just cant get over how much better manual cars are to drive. sooooo.. i been looking at a few conversion kits and found a rconditioned one out of a vn-vp, problem is will it fit my vs ecotec if it didnt come out of an ecotec? is their any issues ill be facing?

opinions from people who have done it themselves would be gretaly appreciated :)

If it's from a vn, make sure its an 8 bolt flywheel and not a 6. Earlier series 1 vn's ran a 6 bolt flywheel which cannot be used in your vs which is 8 bolt. I'd make sure of some evidence re: being reconditioned too as a manual box from a vn is likely to have seen many kms and be quite sloppy with age. Is it just a manual box or a little more complete for the conversion; box, flywheel, clutch and pressure plate, v6 bellhousing, v6 clutch cable, manual tainshaft, shifter, manual gearbox crossmember, thrust race, spigot bush, manual plastic console insert etc etc. You'd need to modify your existing auto loom or chase up a series 1 vs manual loom (series 2 vs ran getrag 5 speed which has a different speed sensor but this can be modded to suit) and get a new manual tune burnt on your memcal.

no worries :) Ideal would be to find a donor car and remove everything yourself that way you can keep all the right nuts and bolts etc. but of course that's not always possible. Missed a few things off my list too: manual pedal box and a v6 clutch fork. Maybe keep an eye out for a cheap manual vs at the auctions thats a stat wright off to get your conversion from. Good luck
