G'day guys and gals, need to pick some brains here. I recently purchased a neat '95 VS (130 000km's on the clock) it's stock as a rock under the hood and now i'm facing some troubles. (I'm no noob with cars or Holdens -just needed to clarify  ) But i'm facing some issues that are driving me round the bend. Problem - car is now running rough and died (idling but dropping revs, rising then stalling). I had CAS issues with it recently but this time it's not CAS. As such i've done the following : Put a new CAS in and front seal New Plugs and Leads (Swapped the coils from VT - but no the ignitor box) I've now got the car running again, but i think the issue of it dying is still niggling ... After replacing the above and getting it running, I let it sit running for 5 mins or so and then it stalled. Tried to start again to no avail. Took the cover off the coils / base and gave the wiring a wiggle and she fired up again (not sure if that was just chance or the wiggle sorted the issue). Have done all the manditory checks of fuses etc etc and checked the diag codes but it's not presenting any errors. There is no issue with the factory immobiliser etc ... Any suggestions??? Do you think it's the ignitor box (i can't believe i was so silly and didn't grab this from the VT and replace it at the same time ... Any help or advice would be appreciated ... as this is the Daily (whilst the VLCT gets rebuilt) i can't rely on it at present ... and to top that off ... i can't enjoy my new super plush carpet or SS interior i've just installed ... Help! Cheers in advance. Nick
Go for the simple things first - check the fuel filter - if its blocked it can/will restrict fuel flow. At your mileage the the Idle Air Control (IAC) should not be blocked but it is a possibility - it can be cleaned (see how-to's)....this will cause erratic idle. Also check that all vacuum lines are connected. Wobble the ignition key around whilst the engine is running as a dodgy ignition switch will also cause this problem. Double check that plugs leads are connected to the right plugs and that they are fully pressed home onto the plugs and not just sitting on the nipple. Also run the codes to see if any faults are logged. Good Luck.
Thanks for the advice Hako All the simple things like plugs leads etc - all triple checked, no worries there. Next step will be fuel filter and IAC. Just cannot see why the above would cause the intermittent issue ... Codes have again been checked on the ECU with no errors found. Cheers
Double check the vacuum leads - make sure the ends are not split. How's the air filter? Exhaust blocked ? Remove, inspect and re-instal every electrical lead/plug under the bonnet including all relays. Check fuel lines - including return line. Does it improve with aircon on?
