Hi people,
My rear demister switch isn't lighting up,
It could be the led that's gone bung.
I have checked the fuse, it's good.
Also checked the relay and its working.
I've multimetered the rear window on the beep test with the power and earth disconnected, a good continuous beep, hoping this means the rear window heater circuit is all good?
It has power there when I multimeter it, and turn switch on and off it comes on and goes off.

So does the switch orange led have to light up for it to work properly?

I only tested it in the last 20 minutes, haven't had a mist to demist this morning to check if it worked.

Hi Pete,
There are 2 bulbs in the rear demister
switch.
One bulb comes on with the instrument lights and lights up the
switch so that you can see it in the dark.
The other bulb comes on when 12V is
connected through to the demister.
Neither bulb can affect the operation
of the demister if blown.
Looks like you need to remove the switch and replace both bulbs while you have it out.
Cheers.

Totally agree with the above comment.

BTW You don't have to wait for a cold morning, just place a coffee mug of boiling water from your kettle on your rear parcel shelf while the demister is on and you'll see how many elements on the screen are functioning. I've found that many nowadays only have a few of the elements still working just like the same issue that plagued the VB to VL rear screens.

Cheers fellors for your input
I went out and turned on the rear demister and left it on for 20 odd minutes and it seemed to clear a little.

I will take the switch out at some stage, and replace the bulb(s)
And I'll comment back.

Cheers
Pete

It should work noticeably within a couple of minutes and not 20, that's for sure. As I suggested if you place a coffee mug of hot water on the rear parcel shelf and allow it to mist up the screen, then turn on the demister it should already show signs of clearing along the elements within the first minute.

One thing that I dread and that is that everytime you have to pull the instrument fascia out it will snap off another one of those plastic tabs as those overly heavy handed metal retainer jaws are just overkill on older brittle plastic.

Hi vs-lover,

I'm the same with this plastic dash panel, my other VR cars one isn't the best.

I will try the cup of water shortly.
I'm wondering where to get those baby bulbs from for the demister light up.
I had a look yesterday, and a found a couple loose, 1 on the hazard light switch, and one on the a/c switch. So I made sure they were tight home again

Yep they seem to rattle their way loose and then suddenly stop working. I've been collecting them for ages and find that they have a 50% dead score when I test them. The blown ones go straight in the bin while the good ones go into a container full of specialised Holden Globes.

You must have a few globes stored away do you mate? Do u have social media, wouldn't mind connecting with some of yous, seem like good fellors.

I went and got some new rice grain globes yesterday. So in the next day or so I will change them over.
Fingers crossed
Oh and I will also do the mug of hot water test for the rear window to.
