Hey all, I picked up a CAI from Holden today, and after fitting it I found that the bonnet shuts properly? After reading threads on there I was expecting it to be a hack job (other than the air box, some holes and opening the mouth open a tad more), but the bonnet doesnt even touch it? Yous are on drugs. BTW, noticeable gain at lower rpm and cruising at light throttle. Bonnet is fully closed^
Yes i think with the vp it may be a tad different but i had no probs either.I think maybe the ss inductions unit(overpriced heap of crap)may have to be altered.I opened mine up a bit as well and found that with 2.5 exhaust, extractors and a high flow cat it now kills it.
Hmm could be a VP bonnet. Not sure. Series 2 bonnet could also be the same as VP. Cobez thats the last of my worries but its on the list, along with many other things. The whole car was filthy when I bought it. Though for a $400 car its scrubbed up pretty well, with a few grand and countless hours of work put into it.
these intakes probably work better on VN/VP then they do on VR/VS where they are a heatsoak nightmare. atleast in the VN/VP they are exposed to cool air coming through the grill. VR/VS they get stuff all cold air due to the different arrangement of the grill being part of the bonnet. i believe that somewhere during the VN the bonnet changed so some cars have trouble with the CAI and some don't
The VS has the bonnet changed to allow big airflow into the CAI, I thought it's much better than the VN/P. Seems that way to me anyhow
Agreed. My mate has one on his VS and theres no gap between the bonnet and grill, so no direct air reaching it.
Wha? Not what Ive seen. The grill allows air through the radiator, and the top radiator support panel (I think its called) blocks off the CAI?
there's 2 different types of CAI's, you got the good one which doesn't need modification. i've got the other one, already cut, you can see the difference
nahh, it's crap, stuff all airflow and high intake temps. i have efilive logs to back that up. you can look through the grill on the VN/VP and clearly see the intake over the radiator. the VS has a much different bonnet line at the front, it's much lower where it becomes part of the grill and it's all closed off. i removed the plastic piece bewteen the radiator support and radiator so that cool air from infront of the radiator can get forced upto the CAI. works ok when it's cold but once it heats up (like sitting in traffic, 50+ degrees C on a 18degree ambient day) and took about 20 mins on the motorway before it was only a couple degrees above ambient again. in the pics you can clearly see that any air coming through the grill goes directly to the radiator and can't get upto the CAI. with the bonnet closed there is only a small gap that allows air to the CAI. i've also lifted my bonnet a few mm to try and get more air in so there may be lots of room around the CAI with the bonnet closed which is allowing hot air from theengine bay to get to the CAI
I though my CAI couldnt get any air over the radiator on my vs statesman until the dust storm ,afterwards you could see the way the air flows by the dust over the Cai ,air box and supercharger and Im not just talking about a little bit of it also it fully blocked up my air cleaner
ohh, it gets air. it's just that it's a heatsoak nightmare. if intake is cold it stays cold. get it hot (like when your stuck in traffic or let it idle in the driveway for a while) and it stays hot for a long time. i was most surprised when we looked at the efilive logs. it was also the first thing delcowizzid noticed when he saw em too. does the factory L67 have a differnt bumper/grill arrangement?
Heres my arangement its standard except the 3mm aluminium piping(not rice barn or supercrap **** ) which doesnt ever seem to get hot enough so you cant touch it and also cools very quickly when you start moving also the front of the CAI has been opened up enough to be able to slide your fingers in easily ,but in general I dont often have heatsoak problems even sitting in traffic I think this is because of the heavy duty alloy radiator, cooler thermostat and the L67 has a two speed fan ( I think but not entirely sure )
the reason yours seems to work well is because the front bar doesn't attach and block off the area right infront of the radiator panel like the VS does. hence the reason the CAI works. proves my theory really. the super 6 CAI works on VN/VP but not so well on the later VR/VS. if you look at the pic i attached earlier you can clearly see that the front bar blocks off the entire area leading to the CAI
