Hopefully someone can help me. Ignition lights are on and I can hear the fuel pump engage, I turn the key and I hear 1 click and then no response (car does not start). I turned the key about 5 times & I saw smoke coming from the starter motor area. I also checked the oxygen sensor cable and it looked like it was touching the exhaust I have checked the battery and volts are between 13-16. Tried to clutch start with the ignition on to no avail. Has anyone else experienced the same type of problem?
Forget error codes! If there is smoke you have a loose or bad battery connection at the starter motor or the starter motor is dead. A loose or bad battery connection generates heat, and the heat causes smoke. Be careful it can be hot enough to burn your fingers.
