Ok so i got any interesting problem thats happened 3 times now and i cant work it out.

for no reason what so ever my car takes a good 20-30 seconds to start, it just keeps turning over and sorta splutters like its trying to start but wont fire, then all of a sudden it will fire up and everything is great.

im having no other problems, the car goes great, 3 times now in the last 2-3 weeks this has happened and im worried its a sign of something more severe about to happen.

it feels to me like theres a lack of fuel but my tank is allways above half, if it was a lack of fuel id assume the car would do it while driving and more often, maybe fuel pump having troubles building up pressure? if it was spark related id assume it would allways be happening, its an odd problem to diagnose.

anyone else had something like this happen? or got any way i can diagnose it?

    cheers

checked fualt codes? possibly the fuel pump. would need to fit a pressure gauge to diagnose properly. when you first turn on the ignition can you hear the fuel pump prime?

    also be a CAS problem

    no error codes.

when the problem happened i didnt think to check fuel pump to see if i could hear it, first thing i did was pop the bonnet and check my plugs/leads and since it starst after 20 seconds or so i didnt get to check anything else.

next time it happens ill check my fuel pump and also im gonna pull off one of my leads and see if i got any spark there, that should narrow it down to fuel or spark i assume.

Don't just check fuel pressure, check to see if it holds pressure when ignition is on and while cranking... I had a bloody starting issue going for ages drove me ****ing insane! In the end it was the one-way valve in the pump, letting the fuel go back in the tank. ("Check Valve" as you would call it in plumbing)
Pump can still prime and make a noise but would loose pressure while cranking.

Agreed^^^^ Its a bit of a pain to change, but not difficult, and it is a likely it could be it.

Fuel pump is normally work or not work. If you can hear it prime when you turn the key it is working. They arent cheap or easy to replace, so theres no hurry to go replacing one. I would start with the fuel pump relay. The fuel pump relay is normally switched on by the ECU when you start the car. However, if the relay doesnt switch on when it is meant to there is a backup system to start the car that uses the oil pressure switch. In the event that the relay doesnt switch, power is supplied through the oil pressure switch to the pump. For the oil pressure switch to work though, you do need the oil to be up to pressure, which normally means some extended cranking before pressure is reached, power is supplied to the pump and the car starts.

Other thing could be the fuel pressure regulator. If the regulator fails it can leak fuel into the throttle body, which floods the engine. On the regulator there is a small vacuum hose going to the throttle body, take that off and make sure there is no fuel in the line and it doesnt smell like fuel.

Start with that relay though, its cheap and easy (5 pin fuel pump relay - not the EFI relay). I would recommend getting it from holden. Relays can come with different internal configurations and if you choose the wrong one you will only give yourself more problems. Holden does them at a pretty good price too.

Thanks kopper you give me something to work with, flooding sounds possible cause my dad suggested that aswell, cause it sounds like its trying to kick but doesnt.

ill start with the relay and see how i go, thanks alot.
