I started painting the rims today and discovered the passenger side tyre has been rubbing on the strut. The wheels arnt to big. Only running 235 45 17s on the front. Its not rubbing on the drivers side. The only thing i can think of is when the passenger side mounted a gutter at 40 - 50km/h. No knocks or weird steering has occurred. What could i have bent? Also s a temp fix, could i loosen the strut and wind the screw in that pushes the disc away from the strut slightly? The car doesnt need to be back on the road till tuesday at the latest. So what are your ideas?
So i tightened the screw and it worked. But something would have had to of gotten bent and i have no idea what. Everything, to me, looks ok except worn bushes. So the screw is a temp fix.
Winding that screw is for adjusting wheel alignment. Maybe your strut is bent from the accident ?? Go and get a wheel alignment done.
Go get it sussed out by Caloundra Suspensions. They know their stuff. Sounds like something is bent to me. Might be easier to see up on a hoist.
By adjusting the camber i gave myself some space between the wheel and strut. From what iv seen all that could cause the tyre to rub like that is: Camber, bent strut and a bend hub. Which if its the hub, it wouldnt spin, its not a bent strut, so i think someone has fiddled with the car again OR its slowly worked its way out and when it hit the gutted the gap (between strut and camber pin) closed quickly. I would love to take it to a suspension shop to get it looked at, however with funds the way they are, im lucky to finish building the transmission. Thanks for your advice guys, i was just in panic mode when i posted this, lol.
Im looking at doing a full bush kit after the transmission. Then ill get a real wheel alignment done and not a bob jane one.
By then you may not have any tyres left after your backyard alignment !! Only hope i can give you is if the camber screw was not adjusted properly when the struts were fitted, so when you hit the gitter you got an instant 4 degrees negative comber which allowed the tyre to hit the strut ?
Who knows. Tyres are rooted anyways, on both sides. The inside have worn to about 1/3 more then the outside. **** tyres too. I did get an alignment after it was lowered and got new front tyres, but bob jane did it, they couldnt even get the steering wheel straight.
I've had that issue from BJ's as well, it must be their signature to show you've had your alignment done by them. If they can't get the wheel straight you can't trust the rest of their work either. The new bushes will make it a lot easier to align properly so goodluck.
Yea, iv had nothing but problems with bob jane. Ill have to bump the bushes up from the 5th group of **** to buy to the 2nd group lol. The only problem with a bush kit i can see is doing the upper and lower control arms as their pressed/welded. Looking to go full nolethane for $500.
Only 1 bush on the VS front end has a metal shell, which is the control arm inner. The others just need a knife and a hammer to remove. and poly ones don't need a press to fit, just some clever vice work or threaded bars and some jigs. Edit - and you can knock that steel shell out with a punch and a good hammer as well, so it's all possible to do at home, and there are a few good threads on here that show you how.
You can buy complete nolathene control arms which means bolt off bolt on. Happy to come round to help fit them.
Yea, their about $150+, but the kits come with them as well. So ill susit out more once the transmission is finished in a the next month i hope. Then tax money.
