Check the filter and replace the fluid as Jule's said

The transmission isnt a job for the faint hearted thats for sure, I wouldnt touch one and leave it to the pro's. The best bet is to take it to a transmission specialist and get a service done, it will set you back around $100 give or take but will also set your mind at ease about the box.

Jake.

P.S

If you happen to be on the Sunshine Coast I can recommend an excellent transmission guru.

to be deadly serious, take it to a auto shop, slipping bands are a sign that the gearbox is on it's way out. you can do a tighten your self, but im not very familar with the vs box, im assuming holden might have used the same box all the way threw, but dont quote me on that, it's a simple case of turning the band bolts a quater of a turn clockwise, and that will tighten them ever so much. but in all honesty, take it to a auto bloke, like oslo60 said, it will set you back a grand total of 100 big ones. auto's are very finical things, you play with them, you can easily destroy them, it's not ahard thing to do

i had problem with my box too. when it shifted from 3 to 2 it would rev for about half a second and then you would hear a slight clunk as it went into second. i had a gear box service down and they replaced the 3-2 down shift solenoid (or thats what it said on the invoice). it was all good for a few weeks but now it is doing it again. only seems to happen when i go around corners though. ill get it checked out again when i get the next service done.
