Hey guys Just this week my VS has started to drink fuel, every-time I get out of the car there is a strong fuel smell from the Exhaust. Also when you give it a little throttle to overtake or get up to speed it hesitates and doesn't backfire but makes a noise like bom bom bom from the exhasut and then it takes off. It has used more then three quarters of a tank in less then a week. What could be the cause of the problem? Thanks
well if you can smell fuel (dont assume from exhaust gasses) i would get a torch and check around fuel tank to fuel filter for leaks (wet patches at connections or lines or tank edge) also around fuel rail on engine including fuel pressure regulator....
I have checked for leaks and visually I couldn't see anything. I just had a mate give it a rev while I was behind it and smells like its over-fueling as the smell was very strong after a few small revs.
As above - prob not from exhaust as it would smell of rotten egg gas once it goes thru the catalytic converter. Try a fault code check - http://forums.justcommodores.com.au...22307-checking-error-codes-vr-vs-revised.html
if your car is running rich then it could be a sensor problem, do a error code check and see if anything comes up. also i have noticed that my ute has the smell of unburnt fuel coming out of the exhaust but i know that it has a miss fire which is why i get the smell, check all your plugs for color if any of them look kinda black or different to the rest then it could be a cylinder that's not firing.
Yeah it is more of a egg smell, not raw fuel, I got code code 76 (Fuel varation left - right banks) which has appeared many times, but the hesitation and heavy use has only started this week. I will check plugs tomorrow.
i agree bad smell hesitation no leaks of fuel check for a misfire, put car in drive foot on brake and half accelerate if it shudders you have a missfire
Might also pay to check the coolant temp sensor - it may be telling the ECU that the engine is cold when it's really hot - this causes a rich mixture and can also cause the code 76. The test suggested above is a good one.
