VS S2 S pack ute
I'm getting mine on sequentual gas injection it's costing $4500 for it to be installed with a gas chip and getting the guy to come to my work and use our dyno to tune it. With the ectractors it will be better off on power no diffrence on econamy i was told by my local exhaust centre. Most manafactures of extractors will not provide a waranty with ectractors fitted to a car on gas as it is not a factory fitted feature.

While gas injection is superior, it prompts the question "Why convert to LPG in the first place?". If the reason is to save money, "GFI" doesn't make much sense.

If:

Annual distance travelled is 15000 km.

Cost of carb. gas conversion is $2750 - $2000 rebate = $750.

Cost of "GFI" is, say, $3750 - $2000 = $1750 (Being generous - the $4500 conversion makes it look even worse.)

Petrol fuel consumption is 12.5l/100km.

Petrol cost is $1.25.

Carb. LPG consumption is 1.4 x 12.5 = 17.5l/100km.

"GFI" LPG consumption might be 0.9 x 17.5l/100km = 15.75l/100km.

LPG cost is $0.55.

Petrol cost/year = 150 x $1.25 x 12.5 = $2340/year.

Carb. gas:

LPG cost/year = 150 x $0.55 x 17.5 = $1440/year.

Payback time = ($2750-$2000)/($2340-$1440) = 0.83 years = 10 months.

"GFI":

LPG cost/year = 150 x $0.55 x 15.75 = $1300/year.

Incremental payback time = ($3750-$2750)/($1440-$1300) = $1000/$140 = 7.1 years.

Having driven VP, VT, VX Commodores on Impco carb gas, it is actually hard to tell which fuel the car is running on and any performance loss due to the gas conversion is not really noticeable. At worst, they can feel a bit "dead" under full throttle acceleration on LPG, like the difference between driving on a cold night and a hot day.

You have valid points cheap6, and i dont want to see another gas war :p, but there are a few reasons why i prefered the gas injection setup and went for it:

1) backfire with gas carb setup and PD blower = very high risk of destroying blower, the cost of replacing it outweighs the cost of a gas carb setup.
2) economy - from my first full tank of gas city driving i did 380kms (petrol i'ld average 420 ). By the time the tunes properly sorted i'm betting on equaling or bettering the petrol result.
3) gas is $0.485 here atm, BP ultimate is anywhere from $1.21 to $1.39 depending on the day, hour, miunte, etc......

But your right i can't feel the diffrence between gas or petrol, same can be said for the few cars i've driven with gas carb setups.

All i was doing was pointing out you can get a VS or similar on a gas injection setup, i'm not bagging the gas carb setups in any way ;)

Hi Danielsan & Cheap6,

Thanks for the feedback guys. I will be going with the IMPCO AIR VALVE SYSTEM
from the GasMan in Sydney. It comes with a 3 year 100,000km warranty. I now just have to wait until Dec 1st. This is when they start taking orders for March 2007 onwards.

Cheers
