Well i thought i might post it up here so see what i should expect when i take it out on the road again. Im the type of person thats about the go, not the show. So What iv done is put a hole in the bonnet above the L67 CAI. The L67 CAI has also been modified and sealed so when the bonnet closes, it only gets the air from there. On a 30degree day the throttle response was alot better. 0-100 alot better too. I havnt tested it out at night yet, but the gains should be even better. Its only a temp thing untill the new motor and bonnet to suit that one comes in, but iv never seen someone do this so i thought id give it ago.
No, as everything else is the same just with the L67 cai mouth cut to the same size as the hole in the bonnet.
looking at it now on PC screen, it doesnt look too bad. Personally its lacking style, even thou its function over looks. could just be that its straight cut compared to the bonnet. Have you thought of maybe VE clubby style vents to clean it up a bit?
I went looking on ebay for some scoops as they cost about as much as the mesh, but the position of this is a hard one. For the mesh, paint and silicon. $30. So its no 3" hole under the air box, but it functions pretty well. As stated its a temp thing untill the new engine and bonnet to suit that one. Ill have to check it out these vents anyway as im curious now.
you've done well and it looks clean, but its missing something. i wouldnt be game enough on mine for a trial, but im sure this may inspire others to give it a crack. i'll be watching this, good luck and more pics with the ve vents.
Well the day after i put the hole in it. It rained. So this was prime opportunity to test it. Before i did this i researched what blokes with filters out the bonnet did. So it was safe to do. If youve noticed that there is a hole in the bottom of the box to let water drain out. As well as the K&N being an oil filter itll keep alot of the water out too. So what ever water does make it past is actually good for the engine due to itll be steam cleaning the internals. This is the conclusion of my research, not experience. Ill have a look around at some vents. But i dont want anything sitting on the bonnet, which is why the mess won my vote. The amount of **** i copped for this mod is astonishing, most of which being "ricer ****, doesnt work, why would you". So maybe if i clean it up abit for when the new donk comes, someone may be interested in taking it off my hands. Also found a pic of the L67 intake being moded and test fitted.
A bit of water in the engine will never hurt it unless it sits in the bore or you ram a god damn fire hose into the intake. In fact water cools the intake charge if its nice and atomized, thus give you bonus ponies.
It looks pretty stealthy I reckon, dunno why you'd be coping flack for the mod being "ricey" as it is actually functional. If you put an aftermarket bonnet scoop on there, you'd be attracting the wrong sort of attention. About the only other way to do it legally would be to fit a Monaro bonnet with the nostril vents unblocked.
I dont know either, i guess people are afraid of new things. I thought about the monaro bonnet, but those are too high for the L67 CAI. However they are perfect (infact thats the new bonnet im buying to go with the new engine) for my new custom intake im building for the rebuilt/built L36 thats going in sometime later in the year.
