How are you measuring your fuel economy? If you are relying on your fuel gauge your not going to get an accurate result. Fill your tank up and reset your trip odometer. When you refil, note how many kms you did any how many litres it took to fill the car back up. A couple of quick sums and you can calculate your real fuel economy. The VT's work out at about 11.5L/100km and run a 75L tank. The VS has the exact same fuel economy at 11.5L/100km, but only uses a 59L tank.
Is that city driving for both? If the VT's getting 500-550 around town, i would have to say that is pretty good. Around town i can get a bit over 400 out of a tank if i try (in my VS), and 300-350 if i drive normaly. Highway driving i can do double the k's.
I do about 40 - 50k's (max. 60) per day city driving and a full tank lasts me a week. thats about 400km to a tank. on the highway i can get about 850km to a tank... so i spose thats about normal mate?
