VS vs VT......?

Discussion in 'VR - VS Holden Commodore (1993 - 1997)' started by turkeychicken, Aug 17, 2005.

  1. After much thought and research Im buying a VS. I like Vt's but I really cant see much point spending an extra couple thousand dollars on one when the VS seems to have everything the VT does apart from the cosmetic surface appearance. Im sure there are some differences that are negligible but hey the VS is a damn good car. My car now is a 1.5lt 96 Lancer and before that a pissy charade. Im sure drivin a V6 ecotech will be like a dream :w00t: Once I get it and tweak it out a bit Ill have on a site and giv ya's a peek.
Cheers to all the info youve all shared. :air:

vt and vs have same engine, just basicly different body shape, vt is also heavier i think by a few hundred kilos, vs is the way to go, save your money the vs is lighter.

It's funny, my ex's new boyfriend was bragging about how he put a VT engine in a VS. He went into denial when I told him that both had 147kw @ 5200rpm. :p

    Hey hey... new here.

I thought the VT's had heaps of engine probs. I am not in any way mechanical, but I was told that if I was ever gonna buy a VT, then get a Gen III engine or something. Was that the case with the VS as well?

  6. VS vs VT

i have a VS, to me, they are a better car, save a few thousand and use it to do the VS up, Engine wise or looks, and in my opinion, done up VS's look a lot better than done of VT's any day!

here's the kerb body weight for all the standard commodore execs

    1362kgs for vr
    1385kgs for vs
    1551kgs for vt
    1519kgs for vx
    1522kgs for vy
    1568kgs for vz

as you can see the vr is the lightest but it only has the 130kw engine, vs has the ecotec 147kw engine so it's the best pic. the vt is a 166kgs heavier than the vs :(

Body size on the VS is also smaller. Found that out when I drove a mates VX and hit bus with the wing mirror. Fuel consumption also seems better. My VS has 235k on it and still gets 32mpg around town and up to 37mpg on highway.

One department in which the VT shits all over the VS is the interior, it's a lot more modern than the VN - VS design which was carried over for so long, the shifter is nicer, seats and everything is just generally more confortable. I'd still get a VS just because of the power/weight ratio and other goodies but the VT really does stand out in the interior department.

    VX SS SERIES II
    my thoughts

i have a vs series 2 and theres no way in hell i would get a vt the interior might be better, i agree the auto shifter looks alot better but still even a stock VS with a respray and dropped on its guts with a nice set of mags looks sh*tloads better than a fully done up vt i think every model later than a vs looks ugly as hell. i hate the way VT's look from the front the small round headlights and the bonnet shape and the back looks just as bad but thats just my opinion

  15. Im glad I got such a response. Ive found a VS II Acclaim with 128k on the dash, drivin by an 81 year old and asking for $6000. Ill talk him down to $5500 and that should be a good deal. The cheapest VT Ive seen is $8000 with 250k, dinted and drivin by some maniac who's probably abused the hell out of it. GO the VS!

Just out of curiosity, how many K's do you guys get from one tank of fuel out of a VS for normal running around ? ( no highway driving ).
The reason i ask, is because my brother has a VS Berlina with ecotec engine, but only gets about 330Kms from one tank, whereas i get around 520Kms in my 98 model VT.

    Cheers.

    Different Tank Sizes!

Firstly, the VS has a 59L fuel tank, and the VT 75 litres. Thus the VT should get more out of a tank.

My experience is that the VS gets better fuel consumption around town, probably due to the lighter weight.

On the highway, I believe it is about even. The extra weight of the VT is probably offset by the better aerodynamics.

I get 450+ Km around town out of my VS S2 manual, and up to 750 Km on the highway. Average since I bought it is 9.8L/100Km.

I also have a VY S2 manual, but don't drive it much. Only up to 4,000 Km at the moment. I have had 820 Km out of a tank, with plenty left. However fuel consumption was on a par with the VS in similar conditions.

I have been very happy with the VS. I have driven lots of VT's and VX's, and prefer the VS.
